Peter Otmar Zeidner was born in Cleveland on September 8, 1958 and was welcomed home by Jesus, his Savior on March 15, 2019. Pete took up his cross to live the life marked out for him by his Lord Jesus Christ, even when his own desires went unfulfilled, when his dreams turned into disappointments or when his already limited physical capabilities were further diminished. But in the end, Pete was able to rejoice that God’s plan for his life was for even greater impact than Pete could ever have imagined.
In the early 1980’s, Pete willed his way to earning a Kent State Marketing degree that helped shape already effective marketing skills. Pete leveraged these skills over the next 30 years to found, sell and promote the Pedal with Pete (PwP) Foundation which became his life’s mission to improve the lives of others impacted by cerebral palsy (CP) through research.
PwP has born much fruit over the past quarter century. Research funding aimed at improving the lives of others also impacted by CP has totaled over $1.2M. Hundreds of PwP volunteers have been inspired by Pete’s grace, by his grit, by his sense of humor, and by the genuine concern and love he had for people. Thousands of others – families impacted by CP, bicyclists, teachers, friends, aids, nurses, classmates and doctors have been touched and changed by knowing Pete and his story.
Pete’s choppy high five wave clearly visible above the frame of his red three-wheel recumbent is a fond memory for Ohio bicyclists from the 1990’s. The electric wheelchair that he maneuvered along Kent’s sidewalks was a familiar sight for Kent residents after a 1999 biking accident left him unable to ride. His faithful participation at Faith Lutheran church will be missed by the many who came to know and love him there over the last 40 years. Haide (Otmar, deceased) Zeidner, who raised, cared for and encouraged Pete to become all that he became will deeply miss him as will sisters Connie (Tim) Harmon, Tina (Manuel) Moreno and brothers Steve (Jill) Zeidner, Alex (Janice, deceased) Zeidner and Chris (Marcia) Zeidner as well as Pete’s nieces and nephews and their children who all loved their Uncle Pete.
