The 23rd annual Kent, Ohio bike and hike event to support cerebral palsy research will be held June 3, 2017 (tentative). The start/finish is at Stanton Middle School, 1175 Hudson Rd. in Kent. (Stanton is west of the high school where last year’s event was held.) Registration on event day is from 7 to 9:30 a.m. for the long rides, and extended to 10:30 a.m. for the short rides and walk. Save by pre-registering online or by mail with the attached registration form.
The riding routes will travel roads and trails of Kent and surrounding communities in Portage and Summit counties and will be supported again with conveniently located rest areas providing light refreshments and water. The longer rides will also be patrolled by SAG drivers if any assistance is needed by riders.
Participants can enjoy complimentary lunch, music, massages, and door prizes at the completion of their journey, starting at 10:30 a.m. A bike tune-up station, sponsored by Kent Cycle will be located at the start/finish. A raffle will be held to win a 2016 Raleigh Detour 1 bicycle donated by Kent Cycle. Raffle tickets can be purchased when riders pre-register, from a volunteer, or on the day of the event.
Participants select a route to ride or walk at their own pace, and can plan to finish between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The event site will close at 2 p.m.
If you need something else to do after our event you can visit Kent’s newly developed downtown which remains open all day and in fact will be hosting the 10th annual Main Street Kent, Art & Wine Festival.
Pedal-with-Pete is also searching for event volunteers and door prize donations. The foundation is all volunteer-based, with approximately 85% of the funds raised going directly to fund cerebral palsy research. Cerebral palsy is caused by abnormalities in parts of the brain that control muscle movements, therefore the research can lead to life-improving treatments. Because Pedal-with- Pete is a 501(c)3 organization, all donations are fully tax-deductible. Pedal-with-Pete was founded by longtime Kent resident Peter Zeidner, who has cerebral palsy, because there was not much research on the disorder. Since its inception in 1993, the foundation has raised more than $1,000,000.
If you want to help Pete with his mission to fund CP research, mail your donation to Pedal-with-Pete, P.O. Box 274, Kent, Ohio 44240. Register for the Kent ride or walk online. Contact ride co-chair Jim Stroble at email@example.com to volunteer or donate door prizes. Pedal-with-Pete thanks you!
